Crowns and Bridges in Port Charlotte

Dental crowns and bridges are used to restore broken or missing teeth, whether it’s just one or several. At Family Dentistry, we offer options that look and function just like natural teeth.

Crowns and bridges are permanent fixtures that are cemented over or anchored with natural teeth. Unlike dentures, which must be taken out and cleaned daily, you can eat and brush as you would normally with your crown or bridge. They are a fantastic restoration option because of their versatility, and because they can treat a wide variety of ailments or flaws in the teeth.

Crowns

Crowns are applied to teeth by completely covering or “capping” them. They can be used for a multitude of reasons, but they are commonly used to restore teeth that are stained, discolored, weak or damaged from a fracture, or if a tooth isn’t strong enough for a filling. They can also be attached to dental implants to replace a missing tooth. At Family Dentistry, we offer our crowns in traditional alloy and porcelain materials. Alloy is generally used for back teeth for their excellent strength, while porcelain crowns are great for their natural look and function in more visible parts of the mouth.

Bridges

Dental bridges are commonly used when there are multiple missing teeth in a row that need to be replaced. Missing teeth can cause the surrounding teeth to shift or rotate unnaturally in the empty spaces, which can cause problems like bad bites or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ). Dental bridges use crowns on the teeth at each end of the open space to act as anchors. This creates a sturdy support structure for the replacement teeth in the middle. Just like crowns, we make our bridges with material that looks and functions just like regular teeth.
