Inlays and Onlays are restorations that can be used when the damage is too severe to be treated with a traditional filling, but a full dental crown is not necessary. But just like fillings and crowns, they can effectively restore a tooth’s natural appearance and strength.

Sometimes referred to as “indirect fillings,” inlays and onlays are custom-made outside of the mouth in a dental laboratory, unlike traditional fillings. It’s called an inlay when the damage is in the center of the chewing surface, and an onlay when the damage requires coverage on one or more points of the tooth.

The procedure typically takes two visits. Our dental professionals will take an impression of your teeth during the first visit, then send that mold to a dental lab, where they will manufacture the inlay or onlay. Our dentists will then bond the inlay or onlay onto your tooth during the next visit.
